Probate
If you do not have an estate plan, the State of California will direct distribution of your assets by intestate succession, which will typically leave your assets to your spouse and issue (i.e. children or grandchildren) after undergoing probate. A probate proceeding can result in a significant delay in the distribution of the decedent’s assets and become rather expensive. Unfortunately, it can not always be avoided.
